Hannity and Shuster

Beth Fouhy reports on a major faux pax from an “MSNBC anchor”:

SEATTLE - A distasteful comment about Chelsea Clinton by an MSNBC anchor could imperil Hillary Rodham Clinton's participation in future presidential debates on the network, a Clinton spokesman said. In a conference call with reporters, Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson on Friday excoriated MSNBC's David Shuster for suggesting the Clinton campaign had "pimped out" 27-year old Chelsea by having her place phone calls to celebrities and Democratic Party "superdelegates" on her mother's behalf. Wolfson called Shuster's comment "beneath contempt" and disgusting ... Wolfson pointed to what he called a pattern of tasteless comments by MSNBC anchors about the Clinton campaign. Weeks ago, "Hardball" host Chris Matthews apologized to the former first lady after suggesting her political career had been made possible by her husband's philandering.

Look – Chris Matthews is sort of MSNBC’s Lou Dobbs. Why they haven’t fired him by now is beyond me. Shuster has apologized and is on temporary suspension. If MSNBC decides not to bring Shuster back, I’d expect he and/or Matthews would fit well over at Faux News.

Update: Senator Clinton writes a letter to MSNBC over this Shuster thing and Ken Bazinet suggests she wants Shuster fired. For example, Clinton’s letter stated:

Nothing justifies the kind of debasing language that David Shuster used and no temporary suspension or half-hearted apology is sufficient.

Maybe Shuster should be sending his resume to Faux News after all.

Update II: Greg Sargent writes that Clinton wants Shuster fired and Josh Marshall takes some heat from his readers for this interpretation of the letter. Josh does a nice job of defending Greg but notice something else. Greg’s link was from NY Daily News, which also read this the same way.
